The "Social aWareness for sErvicE roboTs (SWEET)" is an exciting new Marie Skłodowska-Curie Industrial Doctoral Network (DN-ID) project

The DN-ID on Social aWareness for sErvicE roboTs aims at training a new generation of research and professional experts able to advance the development of robots capable of perceiving, interpreting, and appropriately responding to humans. Doctoral Candidates (DCs) will be immersed in cutting-edge research and innovation with a training program that will offer an integrated curriculum, encompassing theoretical knowledge and real-world application scenarios. The network’s interdisciplinary approach includes various fields, such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, human-robot interaction, computer vision, psychology, and cognitive sciences. A Scenario-Based Learning approach will provide co-working activities where collaborative design and implementation are fostered. The scenarios considered include social awareness in working environments, in private environments, and in public places. DCs will participate in a unique training program for continuous professional development of their soft and research skills. The inter-sectoral collaboration between academia and industry will further strengthen the novelty and impact of the research and training by ensuring that relevant users’ needs are addressed and that research results are technically, economically, and socially feasible.

The research will focus on the following main topics:

    • Human and Context Awareness
    • Socially Acceptable Decision-Making
    • Trustworthiness

Successful industrial doctoral candidates will conduct their research for half of their time at an industrial partner and another half of their time at an academic partner.

Fifteen Doctoral Candidates, who will join the project on September 2025, will work on individual projects that are strongly interconnected.

The recruitment is currently open and will be closed on April 30, 2025. All details about the PhD topics and how to apply are available in the corresponding sections.
